9:00am: After breakfast, you will meet Mary Angela to head to the Trasimeno lake, one of the biggest in the region, and explore its surrounding hills in a fun and captivating truffle hunting session.

9:30am: Truffle hunting is fascinating but it is also very complex because it requires time and patience. Once at destination, you will meet Niccolò, your professional truffle hunter, who, together with his cute dogs, will show you all of the tricks behind this exciting search.

Truffles are funguses that grow underground near the roots of trees. They are classified into a large range of well-known varieties and they are loved for their unique aromas and flavors. In the past, hunters used pigs because they have an excellent nose. However, since they would eat the truffles they found, they were replaced by young dogs. Here in Italy, we mostly use the Lagotto Romagnolo which is a very cute curly coated dog with a lavish and sweet teddy bear look. They are rugged workers whose breed can be similar to the curly coated retriever.

11:30: You will head to Tuoro sul Trasimeno, a quaint fishermen village, famous for its incredible views and its history. This area is also a renowned Roman site because it is where one of the bloodiest battles during the Second Punic War took places. In the second century BC, Hannibal, leader of the Carthaginians, planned a very effective strategy against the Romans.

At night, he decided to hide his troops behind the woody hills surrounding the lake so that, the following morning, he could catch the Romans by surprise and defeat them in no time. Up to this day, this battle is still remembered as one of the cruelest fights of the Roman times.

Once in Tuoro, you will get to the dock and be transferred by boat to Isola Maggiore, one of the last inhabited isles of the Trasimeno Lake. Having a population of roughly 18 people, the isle is a paradise of nature and art. In the past, it was famous for its sophisticated embroidered works and artisanal crafts. Nowadays, it hosts some of the best restaurants in the area, serving local delicacies and wines.

1:00pm: You will get to a charming and picturesque family run restaurant where truffle based delicacies will be served. You will meet the owner and his staff who will welcome you with a nice selection of wines perfectly paired with mouthwatering homemade dishes.

4:00pm: End of the tour and farewell to Mary Angela.
