About me

Hi there! My name is Mary Angela Marciano.

I am an Italian American licensed tour leader, wine & chocolate expert and travel advisor based in Perugia, right in the greenest heart of Italy.

I was born along the stunning Amalfi Coast where tourism and hospitality are our bread & butter.
My father was the second generation owner of one of the first bus companies in Sorrento and my mother is a English teacher from New Jersey.

I was brought up bilingual and, since I was a child, I was surrounded by a very international environment.

In 2002 I moved to Perugia where I graduated suma cum laude in Marketing & Communication at the University for Foreigners of Perugia. Then, in 2014, I moved to New York City to reconnect with my American roots and start a successful carrier in fashion.

However, after years of working a 9-to-5 corporate job in the city, I decided to leave it all behind and return to my beautiful dolce vita in Italy.

In 2017, I finally embraced my passion and became a licensed tour leader. Following in my father’s footsteps, I began working with tourist groups and individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and nationalities.

Over the years, I have worked all across Italy, but still, Umbria’s peace and tranquility is what I have missed the most.

In 2025, I officially became a travel advisor and started GoingLocally, where I promote a more sustainable, slower-paced and off-the-beaten path type of tourism.

My tours cover the entire region of Umbria, focusing primarily on local culture, craftsmanship, and well-being. What truly brings joy to my soul is introducing people to small artisans and helping them reconnect with their bodies and mind.
