9:00am: After breakfast, you will meet Mary Angela to head to Spoleto, the most popular tourist attraction for international intellectuals, poets and artists throughout the Grand Tour of Italy.
9:30am: Once in the city centre, you will meet your historical guide, who walk you around Spoleto. She will show you the most important sites in town such as: the impressive Basilica di San Salvatore, a UNESCO Heritage site, and the panoramic Rocca Albornoziana which is the highest viewpoint overlooking the entire Spoleto valley. In addition, she will tell you a lot about the Festival dei due Mondi, one of Italy's most prestigious classical music festivals, which every year attracts artists, performers, and visitors from across the globe.
12:00pm: You will leave Spoleto and head to Campello sul Clitunno, a quaint little town overlooking the Clitunno river, known for its crystal-clear spring waters and its scenic beauty. Along the river, a stunning swan lake park is located and it is called the Fonti del Clitunno. Throughout the centuries, the park has been a great source of inspiration for many Italian and international poets and writers vacationing in Umbria. The area is now opened to the public and it is a popular spot for visitors seeking tranquility and picturesque views.
1:00pm: Spoleto is also known for its extra virgin olive oil and here is where you have its largest production. Spoleto EVO is DOP, which stands for Denomination of Origin Protected, and it has to go through very rigorous quality checks before it is put on the market.
You will stop at one of the oldest mills in the area where you will meet Settimio, one of the owners. He will walk you through his facility, which dates back to the 1800s, and you will see real time how authentic cold pressing is made. The visit will end with a mouthwatering tasting. You will have an assorted platter of organic oranges drizzled with freshly squeezed EVO, toasted bruschette topped with EVO, pecorino cheese and honey. Everything will be paired with local wine. Finally, a set menu lunch will be served at Settimio’s nearby restaurant. Homemade tagliatelle with white ragù and Crescionda dessert will delight your taste buds, including water and local wine.
