Learn more about Perugia's chocolate making tradition by taking an inspiring and fun hands on class right in the heart of Perugia.

The art of chocolate making in Perugia dates back to the early 1900s when a young woman entrepreneur, Luisa Spagnoli, decided to open the first chocolate making laboratory right in the heart of the city's historical centre. Throughout the years, thanks to the help of a local entreprenaur, her creations became so popular that they started to be branded as Perugina.

The company substantially grew all through the 1900s, transformimg the city into a chocolate making capital, one of the most famous in Italy. Therefore, its fame expanded so much that in 1988 its brand was bought by the international Swiss group Nestlé.

However, despite this acquisition, Perugia still has a great number of chocolate companies and few remaining artisans who silently continue to traditionally handcraft chocolate in their facilities.

Are you interested in experiencing an authentic chocolate making experience?

I personally think the best chocolate making experience you can get is heading to a local laboratory. You can learn from a real maître chocolatier and taste the quality behind its morning productions. Becoming a chocolate maker for the day is very enjoyable and it's an experience you can share with your friends and/or loved ones.
